How to care for your lawn after laying it

Published on 8 June 2026

The first few weeks after laying are critical for the lawn to take root. Here are the right habits to adopt, followed by the routine care to maintain over time.

Caring for natural lawn after laying

The first 3 weeks

  • Water daily, ideally early morning or late in the day
  • Avoid walking on the lawn for the first 10 to 15 days
  • Do not mow until the lawn has reached 6 to 8 cm in height

Routine care

  • Mow regularly without cutting more than a third of the blade height
  • Space out watering to 2-4 times a week depending on the season and your region
  • Monitor colour and density to adjust watering
  • Scarify once a year to remove moss and thatch
